KONIS, English Montessori School, Pyeoungchang-dong, Seoul
Kids Of the Nations International School (KONIS) - Montessori Pre-School and Kindergarten - is for children 18 months – 7 years old.
KONIS is located in beautiful Pyeongchang Dong, Jongno-Gu - 10 mins from Gyeongbukgung station on Seoul Subway Line 3 and 2 mins from Seoul Arts High School.
KONIS was specifically designed and built with children in mind in September 2008.
Our facilities include a peaceful park, backyard playground and rooftop vegetable garden that the children plant, cultivate and eat. We have a waterfall, a pond, 2 small pools and a deck for water play.
Outside we have a jungle gym to climb on and 3 playhouses for children to have fun.
Each class has 2 Montessori trained teachers with a maximum of 18 students.
Collectively we have over 35 years experience running Montessori preschools and kindergartens.
Miss Lee, has been a director with Montessori here in Korea for over 20 years.
Here’s a look at our day:
We follow the Montessori Method in the mornings where we follow the child and their “work”.
We believe in educating the whole child: emotionally, physically and intellectually
Our Chef prepares a fresh homemade lunch here at KONIS.
After lunch, our Director Mr. Mark, on occasion, provides instruction in hockey, basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer and golf as sports are his passion and specialty.
Our afternoons are spent using an Early Childhood 42 week curriculum which focuses on art, science, crafts, cooking and creativity.
Why Montessori? Through the prepared environment, highly trained teachers, freedom of choice and well defined discipline the children learn at their own pace. Children have absorbent minds which take in everything they see, hear, taste and touch. Montessori believes that the hands are the way to the mind so the children are free to explore the ever evolving prepared environment. The four key goals of the Montessori Method are what we call the TOCI skills:
Time Management: Respect it, Invest in it and Manage it well through many opportunities
Order: We follow the natural progression of things, everything has a place,
Concentration: Cornerstone of learning, builds focus, absorb and learn quickly
Independence: Help me to help myself skills, care and feed self, help others
We aim to create the character values of love, joy, peace, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, self control.
We strive to create Confident, Competent, Curious, Courteous, Creative Thinkers who can easily absorb, excel and adapt in an ever changing world.
Classes begin at 9:15 and finish at 2:35 pm.
We offer an extended program from 2:45 to 6:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays which focuses on sport, real life problem solving and applying the skills learnt during the day.
We also offer violin lessons on Monday afternoons and Korean lessons on Thursday afternoons
We have parent education workshops on the Second Tuesday every month of the year.
We provide parents with additional education of the Montessori Method and the unique materials used .
We also share our experiences as educators and parents and encourage all parents to attend and network with each other to offer support and encourage one another as we grow together. Feel free to come and attend and ask additional questions.
School Bus transport is available.
