Taxis for Disabled - Seoul
Seoul operates about 410 designated vans/taxis to provide exclusive services to people with disabilities in Seoul. The taxis operate under the Seoul Metropolitan Facilities Corp. and offer the service at highly subsidized rates - basic fare W1,500 won for the first 5 kilometers of travel with an additional W300/km between 5km and 10km and W350 for each km over 10 kilometers.
The taxi service only covers the Seoul metro area, although passengers from Seoul can get to satellite cities such as Bucheon, Bundang and Ilsan. However, they have to find an alternate source of transport back to Seoul.
While the city is hoping to cut the waiting time down to 20 minutes, there is still a significate wait time for a taxi. The reported average is 30 minutes during the day and 60 minutes after 5PM. Users have reported waits of as long as 2 hours and often no-shows even though the service was requested the day before.
Some disabled foreign nationals have reported getting service once but not again, despite repeated requests for service.
