Substitute Holiday

As of fall 2014, when a major holiday falls on a weekend day, the government designates the following working day as a non-working holiday. The new substitute holiday system was implemented for first time in South Korea during the 2014 Chuseok holidays. The subsitute holiday is to apply to Llunar New Year's Day (Seollal), Chuseok and Children's Day.
Because many workers ended up having the day off without pay, a bill was introduced after the holiday to require that all workers be able to enjoy the new holiday wtih pay. If the proposed bill is adopted, the law will take effect 6 months after promulgation.
