Supermarkets-Sunday Closings Schedule

Supermarkets-Sunday Closin...

Concerned that the big supermarkets such as COSTCO,E-Mart, Homeplus, Lotte Mart, Mega Mart and the SSMs (Super Super Markets) such as Lotte Super and Homeplus Express were hurting small retailers and traditional local markets, the Korean government introduced mandatory Sunday store closings in 2012.

The majority of the big supermarkets and SSMs around the country are closed the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. However, some close on days/dates other than those.

The closing dates of the stores in each chain's locations around the country can be found in Korean on their websites. The store locations/closing dates are relatively easy to figure out if you can read basic Korean but if you cannot, you can contact the KTO 02-1330 helpline to find out about a specific store.

COSTCO
COSTCO has an English website. The stores are usually closed the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. To confirm the hours of a specific location in Korea, go to the COSTCO English website and click on the LOCATIONS tab.

E-Mart
Go to the Emart website and click on 공지사항.  The site is in Korean only

Homeplus
Go to the Homeplus website. You'll see a box with the number of the month near the top of the page or you can click on 공지사항 then on 홈플러스 4월 휴무안내 (note that the 4 represents April, so that number will be different depending on the month for which you are checking). The site is in Korean onlly.

Lotte Mart
Lotte Mart stores are generally closed the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. To confirm the closure dates, click on the Lotte Mart website and you'll see the dates for the current and next month just before the store image. You can also check out the Lotte Super stores website. The site is in Korean only.

MegaMart
The MegaMart website is in Korean only. Depending on your level of fluency, this site may be challenging to navigate.
