Dongdaemun Fabric Market
The Dongdaemun Shopping Town and Shopping Complex offers something for everyone, especially people who enjoy sewing, quilting, crafting, etc. The 7-story building includes 4 dongs (동): A, B, C, and shopping town. Everything a sewer could possible need can be found at Dongdaemun. Along with fabrics/materials such as burlap, cottons, faux furs, silks, leather, linen, silks, synthetics, wools, etc. the market offers needles, spools, sewing shears, quilting material, handles for making handbags, stuffing for plushies, beads and semi-precious stones to make jewelry, chains, crystals, wire crafts, feathers, sewing machine parts, materials to make watches, and lots more.
Shopping at Dongdaemun can be an adventure and until you figure out your favourite vendors, finding everything you need can be somewhat time consuming. The aisles are very narrow and vendor booths are not organized according to an easily identifiable system. Morning is the best time to visit Dongdaemun as it can get pretty crowded and chaotic after around 11:30AM. Vendors usually eat at their stall, so food deliverers join the crowds, especially between 11:45 and Noon.
The buildings are more or less organized as follows:
B1 Floor – bedding, curtains, embroidery, lace, threads, submaterials, yarns, etc.
1st Floor – bedding, china, embroidery, household/living goods, lace, notions, porcelain, yarns, etc.
2nd Floor - curtain, fabrics (mostly cotton), hanbok, notions, silk goods, etc.
3rd Floor – various fabrics
4th Floor – various fabrics
5th Floor - accessories and craft materials, notions, etc. There’s also a food court in Shopping Town.

Sunday (limited number of stalls are open) : 8:00 am ~ 6:00 pm

Note: Despite the official hours, many fabric shops tend to close about 5:00 pm. Many also tend to open later than 8:00 am. Each stall is an independent vendor, so opening/closing hours will vary.
