Expat Soccer-Football Teams
Soccer/Football is popular in the foreign community and there are a number of teams/leagues primarily made up of foreign members.
Seoul Saturday Soccer League (SSSL) is the newest international and expat football/soccer league in and around Seoul. The league started in 2007 with six teams, and has grown into a 3 Division league with 24 teams. The league runs two sessions per year, taking breaks in the coldest and hottest months (Jan/Feb/July/Aug). To join a team, contact the Seoul Saturday Soccer League Players FB group.
Seoul Cosmos are a very social and competitive team who hold the honour of being the only team to have remained in Seoul Saturday Soccer League 1st Division ever since since their inception in 2008 and have won the title multiple times. Their membership hail from all over the world and actively remain in touch even after their time in Korea is over. You may also see them on tour at international Expat 11 or 5 a-side tournaments across Asia. If you are interested in joining the squad or just want to play in the pick up 5 a-side games they organize at Yongsan station in central Seoul then message their FB page or email email@example.com.
AC & Seoul Villans Football Club play in the Seoul Saturday Soccer League Division 1. The team includes members from around the globe who live and work in Korea, and the club stays connected with members who have long since moved away. The Villans were established in 2009 and play their home league games in Gwacheon and mid-week futsal games in Yongsan, once a year the team travel to Ulsan to compete in the Ulsan Cup, Koreas biggest expat football tournament. As of 2014, the Villans have divided into 2 teams allowing for more game time and members to join, following 2 promotions both teams now compete in the first division and meet after at the sponsor pub in HBC to drink together. - Outkasts FC is an amateur football team playing in the Seoul Saturday Soccer league. The team is a sociable group made up of players of many different nationalities. If you are interested in playing competitive 11-a-side matches in Seoul every Saturday, message the team's FB page.
Seoul Sunday Football League has enough teams to make up 3 divisions (about 19 teams in Fall 2014). Most teams meet every weekend. Participation fees vary per team. The teams play from March to June and then again from September to December. Teams are primarily based in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Games are played in various locations around the area. - Seoul Fury FC is composed of players who work, study and live in South Korea. It is the only co-ed team in the Seoul Sunday Football League. For friendlies, inquiries, and/or new membership recruitment contact SeoulFuryFC@gmail.com.
EXPAT SOCCER/FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
The Ulsan Cup is a soccer tournament held on the Korean Peninsula. It is played every year in Ulsan, a city famous for whales, ships and cars. The tournament was established in 2008 and is currently the only major tournament for expatriate teams in South Korea. Each year teams compete to take the trophy, purse and the title of "Best Expatriate Team in Korea"
