Teaching in Korea

Can anyone who speaks English get an English teaching job in Korea?

Until 2015, only citizens of 7 countries where the population were considered to be native English speakers were able to obtain a visa to teach English in Korea. These were: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdon and United States, Note that for many years, applicants who had graduated from a university in Québec (Canada) were rejected as they were not perceived to be 'native English speakers'. However, there were no regulations excluding them from teaching English.

In 2015, Korea announced in would be accepting applicants from 4 additional countries for teaching assistant positions in primary and secondary schools nationwide. These are: India, Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines.  These are countries that have trade agreements with Korea. Requirements for applicants from these four countries are stricter than for the original seven countries in that in addition to holding a Bachelor's degree or above, the degree must be in English studies and they must have a teaching degree/license from their home country.
