Taejon Christian International School, PreK to Gr 12, Boarding from Gr 6, Daejeon
Taejon Christian International School is a prestigious, fully accredited college preparatory school for students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in a 21st century learning environment. Founded in 1958 by US missionaries, TCIS is located on a brand new ten-acre purpose built campus in Daejeon Techno Valley, in the center of South Korea, just 50 minutes from Seoul by KTX (high speed train). Spread on 43,000 square-meter property, phase one of the construction includes a five-story academic building, a multi-storied gymnasium complex, a 500-seat performing arts center, an activity center and a five-story dormitory. The school currently maintains dormitories for approximately 150 boarding students in grades 6-12. About 500 students are currently enrolled in grades PK-12 overall.
TCIS is one of the premier IB World schools in South Korea, offering all three IB programs: Primary Years Program (grades PK-5), Middle Years Program (grades 6-10) and Diploma Program (grades 11-12). The IB Diploma Program is recognized by universities worldwide as one of the most rigorous curriculums employing best practices in primary and secondary education. Implementation of the IB program has strengthened our academic curriculum and service education, as well as our students’ second language development and global worldview.
Our multi-cultural, Christian faculty are all certified educators who receive ongoing IB training and professional development. Our teachers are committed to nurturing your children to help them attain their utmost potential and are known for their attention to helping students excel in and out of the classroom.
Character Education & Co-Curricular Activities
At TCIS, we address not only the minds of our students, with a rigorous, high-quality education, but also the hearts of our students. TCIS aims to educate the whole child, emphasizing the academic life, spiritual life, social life, physical life and emotional life while providing an internationally based education within a Christian environment.
TCIS is a member of the Asia Pacific Activities Conference (APAC) along with 11 other international schools in Asia, including Shanghai American School, Western Academy of Beijing and United Nations International School of Hanoi, to name a few. TCIS is also a member of the Korean-American Interscholastic Activities Conference (KAIAC) within Korea. Through these two conferences TCIS students can engage in various activities with students from other schools and in different cultural contexts. We currently have more than 50 different activities that students can be involved in, and students have the opportunity to create new clubs and activities with their schoolmates. We encourage students to be creative and take leadership in their areas of interest.
TCIS graduates matriculate to prominent universities around the world. Over the years, TCIS alumni have matriculated to Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Brown University, U. Penn, Columbia, Cornell, UC Berkeley, Northwestern, Duke, University of Chicago, Cambridge (UK), Imperial (UK), University of Hong Kong, and McGill, among many other renowned institutions.
The residence program at TCIS is a service ministry to families who desire an internationally-based education. All members of our boarding staff are native English speakers and practicing Christians committed to being Christ-like role models who cherish our students. We strive to make our dorms a safe, comfortable, family-like environment in partnership with parents, communicating regularly concerning the well-being of each child.
Alongside our emphasis on family is a strong commitment to professionalism. Our dorm staff members are college educated, many with backgrounds in education or youth ministry. Additionally, our staff undergo psychological evaluations, background checks and two weeks of extensive training before they are hired by TCIS.
