Seoul Foreign British School, EYFS to Year 9, Seodaemun, Seoul
Seoul Foreign British School (SFBS) has been serving the international community for over 30 years. SFBS has built a reputation as one of the premier schools in Seoul. As a division of Seoul Foreign School, which was established in 1912, it offers a distinctly ‘British’ option to the curriculum available at the Seoul Foreign School, Yonhi-Dong campus.
Seoul Foreign British School (SFBS) offers the highly regarded, UK’s English National Curriculum (ENC) from Reception - Year 9. The ENC is a comprehensive and well-established curriculum (since 1988), which provides the rigor and assessment-based structure suitable for international students. For those less familiar with the English education system, it is divided up into a number of Key Stages:
Key Stage 1 covers Reception (the academic year in which the child will turn five years old), Year 1 and Year 2 (equivalent to JK, SK and Grade 1);
Key Stage 2 is Years 3 to 6 (Grades 2 to 5);
Key Stage 3 is Years 7 to 9 (Grades 6 to 8).
Students who complete Year 9 at SFBS transition seamlessly into the Seoul Foreign High School division where the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) curriculum provides the ideal platform prior to further study in the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB Dip) subjects offered in the Seoul Foreign High School.
At SFBS there is an environment that emphasizes quality, motivation and enthusiasm; expectations and outcomes of the students are high and not just academically. The creative and physical development of students are part of the holistic approach to learning at SFBS– Art, Drama, Design Technology (DT), Physical Education (PE) and Music are as much a part of student life as the core subjects of Literacy, Mathematics, Science and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
Because students need to be aware of their place in the world about them, the curriculum includes Christian-based, comparative Religious Education (RE); Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE – relationships with others), Citizenship and Modern Foreign Languages (including Mandarin, French, Korean and Spanish) which are offered at various levels. In addition, Geography and History schemes of work have been adapted to reflect the international nature of the students and the host nation, Korea.
As well as swimming, Seoul Foreign British School’s extensive facilities enable the school to offer a range of sports, both within the curriculum and in an extensive after-school activities’ program. SFBS students represent their school in various sports in regional competitions. In the performing arts, they have drama and music productions in state of the art theatre facilities, that reflect the commitment, dedication and sheer enjoyment that the students bring to such events.
Seoul Foreign British School embraces its international diversity. With an enrolment representing more than 40 nationalities, it provides a truly international learning environment. SFBS students are highly motivated, talented and diverse.
