British International Kindergarten - BIK, Hannam-dong, Seoul
Located in the Yongsan area, near Itaewon, the British International Kindergarten Hannam was founded in September 2006 to serve an expatriate and Korean community of children from the age of two to seven years. We offer your child the opportunity of being educated not only in the medium of English but also in the English manner.
Location:
Our school is located near UN village, a residential area popular with the International Community in Seoul and has been constructed with the needs of the British curriculum in mind. It has the full range of facilities needed for 2~7 year olds: art room, indoor activity room, space for outdoor play, library, assembly hall and spacious airy classrooms. (Note: A sister school in Gangnam opened in March 2011, BIK Cheongdam).
Curriculum:
We provide five years of learning for our children, following the National Curriculum for England and Wales. However, because we offer an international educational experience, we amend certain parts of this curriculum, so that it is more relevant to children who are living outside of their passport country.
The five years are part of two key stages as outlined below:
Early Years Foundation Stage:
Nursery 1
(age 2~3, your child will have their 3rd birthday in this class)
Nursery 2
(age 3~4, your child will have their 4th birthday in this class)
Reception
(age 4~5, your child will have their 5th birthday in this class)
Key Stage 1:
Year 1
(age 5~6, your child will have their 6th birthday in this class)
Year 2
(age 6~7, your child will have their 7th birthday in this class)
Each academic year is divided into six half terms of approximately seven weeks each.
School bus:
A school bus service is provided for all children who wish to use the service. Children are escorted on the buses by our teaching staff. Our buses are comfortable and equipped with seatbelts or child seats for our younger children.
School lunches:
Our delicious lunches are prepared from fresh, organic ingredients in our school kitchen each day. We offer a mixture of Western and Asian style meals so that each child will have the opportunity to try new or different foods as well as enjoying foods, which are more familiar to them.
Snack and lunch times are an important learning time during the school day as many new skills can be acquired during those times. Children sit in family style groups with a teacher, who encourages healthy eating, good manners and supports the development of other social skills.
We welcome discussion with parents who have Halal or Kosher dietary needs and we also make provision for those who may have medical needs that affect their nutrition as well as for those who suffer from food allergies.
School Uniform:
We require that all our pupils adhere to a dress code which includes school uniform. The uniform is based on issues of practicality, safety and sensitivity to our location here in Seoul. Our school uniform provides our community with a sense of pride in both the school and themselves.
School Contacts:
The Headteacher of BIK Hannam is Ms Sylvia Hayles and the Founder and Chairman is Mr. Kevin McNeany.
