British International Kindergarten - BIK Cheongdam, Gangnam, Seoul
Located in the Cheongdam area, near Apgujeong, BIK Cheongdam, was opened in March 2011. BIK Cheongdam provides a British style education for children from the expatriate and Korean communities who are aged from 2 years to 7 years of age.The school is ideally located in an attractive and exclusive district of Seoul. It is the sister campus to the very successful BIK Hannam located across the river in Hannam-dong. Emphasis is on the main areas of developmental learning for young children, but this is also modified to meet the needs of the young children who are learning English as a second (or sometimes third) language. As well as preparing children for an understanding and appreciation of the world at large, the school also teaches the values, good manners, appropriate behaviour, courtesy, confidence and respect.
Location:
Our school is located near Cheongdam intersection, a prestigious area popular with the international community in Seoul and has been renovated with the needs of the National Curriculum of England and Wales in mind. It has the full range of facilities needed for 2~7 year olds: music room, indoor activity room, library/ computer suite, assembly hall, airy classrooms and a medical room.
Curriculum:
The curriculum is based on the well respected National Curriculum of England and Wales for the Early Years, Foundation Stage, and Key Stage One for children (ages 2 to 7 years). Each class has its own carefully designed timetable appropriate to the age and learning needs of the children. Timetables for each class are formed around the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science as well as Geography and History. The curriculum also allows appropriate time for Creative Development and play activities which are vital for our young pupils' social development. We offer regular Music and Mandarin Chinese lessons and these lessons are taught by our specialist teachers..
It is a fundamental belief of BIK that creating positive childhood memories is just as important as building solid foundations for future development. It is strongly believe that the educational experience should be stimulating and challenging, but above all, in these vital years, it must be happy and secure
In order to aspire to the very best and to ensure that a child's potential is achieved, one must create the best possible environment within which the children can grow and flourish. We achieve this by ensuring that our curriculum is taught within a 'brain-friendly' environment and in conjunction with a whole school 'positive behaviour' model.
Staff:
BIK Cheongdam benefits from a team of exceptional teachers suitably qualified for teaching children in this age range. All classes at BIK benefit from having both an international teacher (predominantly British) and a Korean teacher(s). All of the teachers at BIK Cheongdam either have, or are currently studying for, a degree, or post-graduate degree, in Education. They are all experienced with the National Curriculum of England and Wales and working with young children.
There is also a full-time, fully trained nurse on site.
School bus:
A school bus service is provided for children who wish to use the service. Children are escorted on the buses by our teaching staff. Our buses are comfortable and equipped with seatbelts or child seats for our younger children.
School lunches:
Our delicious lunches are prepared from fresh, organic ingredients in our school kitchen each day. We offer a mixture of Western and Asian style meals so that each child will have the opportunity to try new or different foods as well as enjoying foods, which are more familiar to them.
Mealtimes are held in our school hall and teaching staff dine with the children to encourage and support the development of social skills during lunches.
We welcome discussion with parents who have Halal or Kosher dietary needs and we also make provision for those who may have medical needs that affect their nutrition as well as for those who suffer from food allergies.
School Uniform:
We require that all our pupils adhere to a dress code, which includes school uniform. The uniform is based on issues of practicality, safety and sensitivity to our location here in Seoul. Our school uniform provides our community with a sense of pride in both the school and themselves.
School Contacts:
