We are about to say goodbye to the Year of the Monkey as we greet the Year of the Rooster. In Korea, the 12 animals signs are known as sibijiisin (십이지신). The twelve gods of the earth are: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.
In traditional Korea, roosters announced the sunrise with a promise of a clean fresh day symbolic of strength, vitality and vigilance. According to an old Korean saying, “The rooster’s crow heralds the breaking of dawn and brings the beginning of a new day, driving away the devil.” The Year of the Rooster is sometimes refered to as the Year of the Chicken, in Korea.
Roosters are described as needing to be the center of attention and can be outspoken, open, honest, loyal amusing individuals who are often popular within a crowd. It appears that they enjoy the spotlight and are happiest when surrounded by a crowd. However, they may become agitated if others don’t listen when they speak and they sometimes have a tendency to boast, which does not always endear them to others.
Efficient and reliable, the Rooster is an excellent communicator and can often be found in careers involving sales, public speaking and/or writing. Many also have successful careers in arts while others enjoy working in financial advising and banking.
Roosters usually relate well with people born in either Years of the Ox or Snake. However, their tendency toward critical or opinionated expressions, can be hard to take by more sensitive Rabbits. Some people are making a comparison between the Rooster and U.S. President Donald Trump, who in fact is a Dog (1946).
You are a Rooster If you were born in 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005 as are/were the following people:
Koreans: KANG Won Rae, KAI, Gummi, KIM, Rae-won, Gong Minzy, Ravi, KANG Seung-yoon, PARK Bo-gum, Suga.
