2nd Annual HOPE Summer English Camp Needs Your Help

2nd Annual HOPE Summer Eng...

While many ESL teachers here in Korea are busy planning their summer English camps, HOPE is taking a few good men and women to the rural south to stage a weekend English workshop. This marks our second year presenting ten (10) skilled ESL teachers from the Greater Seoul area, Gyeonggi Province to Suncheon in Jeollannam Province. Our target: Haeryong Elementary School.

Although Gyeonggi Provincal Office of Education (GPOE) has provided funding for public schools to have Native Speaking English Teachers in most elementary, middle and high schools for a number of years now, there are still many regional areas of Korea who have yet to experience ESL teachers from abroad. And Haeryong Elementary School is no exception.

It was an absolute joy to share our knowledge and teaching skills with the one hundred (100) students, 1st through 6th Grade, last year (2010) in late August. They were teeming with energy, bright smiles and loads of eagerness. The small bit of apprehension was easily overcome when they spent the first two minutes of introductions with each of our volunteer teachers…remember it was their first time with a foreign ESL teacher and for most of them it was their first experience actually being that close to a foreigner.

Now it's summer 2011, and we are doing it again. We have received support from 3-Alley Pub in Itaewon, Bar Adrenalin in Guri City and TESL Korea Recruiting, as well as several personal donations, however as a non-profit organization, we are always in need of additional financial support. Educating at no cost is our game and HOPE is our name. If it’s in your heart to show some love and make a donation, please contact Eddie Robinson, Project Director at: eddierobinson@alwayshope.or.kr or Ryan Yoo, Managing Director at: public.hope@gmail.com.
