Ice hockey is played in Korea and opportunities to play on a team or for a pick-up-game exist. There are a number of expat teams that are made up of Foreign and Korean nationals. Expat hockey games are mostly non-contact. For player protection, full equipment is required. It is possible to buy new in Korea but the cost will run anywhere from W300,000 to W500,000. There are hockey shops near the Mokdong rink in Seoul.

EXPAT TEAMS:

Daejeon-Cheongju Ice Hockey League (DCIHL) is a recreational hockey league made up of players of all ages, nationalities and levels of experience. Both men and women are welcome to join. The league is made up of 4 teams who each play two games in Daejeon and two games in Cheongju.  he league will be made up of 4 teams with players from Daejeon and Cheongju. Each team will play two one-hour games each month in both Daejeon (10:30 and 11:30 PM Fridays) and Cheongju (7 and 8 PM Saturdays).See website for more information.

Chiefs Hockey Team is an expat team based in Seoul. Open to both Expat and Korean players. Additional information available on their blog and Facebook page.

The Geckos Glaciers has games every Sunday from 9PM to 11PM at the Anyang Ice Rink in Anyang City, Geyonggi-do. Anyone who can play is welcome. Their website has information on the team’s schedule as well as a contact link for those wanting to join. 

Incheon Iceholes is an amateur expats hockey team in Incheon, Korea.  The team has been playing other foreign and Korean amateur teams around Korea since 2001. Practice is Wednesday nights from 11PM to 1AM at  Dong-nam Spopia in Yeon-su dong, Incheon and play games at other rinks on the weekends. Info/Contacts: see the team’s website. While most players are Canadian, there are also Koreans and other nationalities on the team. 

KOREAN TEAMS:

Korea Ice Hockey Association is an association of professional hockey leagues in Korea.

 The Sr. Kings are a great place to start if you’re a bit rusty. The organiser Mr. Cho speaks English. You can reach him at  011-715-6234.
