Blood Type Check in Korea

Blood Type Check in Korea

Although it's best to check your blood type before coming to Korea so that, if it's Rh negative, you can prepare in advance should you need blood here. Rh negative is relatively rare in all of Asia, including Korea, and it can sometimes be difficult to find donors, especially given the rules for foreign donors in Korea. (For more on this, scroll down to the topics in this section listed at the bottom of this page.)

However, if you’re already here and don’t know your blood type, you can find out at any hospital - it may be easier to communicate your wishes at an international clinic but any hospital is fine.

Following is a Korean text explaining that you want to find out your blood type and asking that they indicate if you are Rh positive or Rh negative.

혈액 검사를 받고 저의 혈액형을 알고 싶습니다. 제가 Rh양성인지 Rh음성인지 알려주세요.

Basic translation: I would like to recieve an exam to determine my blood type. Please let me know whether I am Rh+ or Rh-.

You may have to insist on being told if you are rhesus positive or negative since this information is not always provided and there is a tendency here to sometimes overlook the existence of rhesus negative blood. Not surprising as, while there are some cases in Korea, the overwhelming majority of Korean of rhesus positive.
