Expat Soccer-Football Teams
Soccer/Football is popular in the foreign community and there are a number of teams primarily made up of foreign members.
Seoul Sunday Football League has enough teams to make up 3 divisions (about 21 teams). Most teams meet every weekend. Participation fees vary per team (around W100,000/year for many including jersey). The teams play from March to June and then again from September to December. Teams are based in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Games are played in various locations around the area. Games schedule and other info on the SSFL website or contact ssflweb@gmail.com.
Seoul Weeknight Football League is an expat 5-a-aside football (soccer) league that plays on weeknights in Gwacheon from March to July and September to December. Participation fee is about 5,000 won per game. The league currently has 10 teams made up of 7 players each. Each team has one game a week on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Jeonju United Football Club (was Jeonju Un-athletic Football Club) is made up of both Expat and Korean players. There are usually about 20-25 team members. They play among themselves or against other expat teams. Games are on either Saturdays or Sundays or both. There is the occasional weeknight game. The team operates on a membership basis – W75,000 gets you a 3-month membership. The money goes to cover the cost of renting the pitch, equipment, etc. Team members pay their own travelling costs for games outside Jeonju. Seoul RMT FC is a women's soccer team based in Seoul consisting of expats from North America, Europe, South Africa and other areas of the world. The team, coached by Paul Philippe Anglade, is open to women of all nationalities and skill levels. Seoul RMT FC ladies has competed against both men's and women's teams in friendly matches and tournaments. The team hosted the first annual tournament in December 2010. The main purpose of the annual tournament is designed to bridge relationships among international female soccer players of various skill levels and to generate enthusiasm and support for women who play the great game.
