Editing/Proofreading

Native English-speakers are not limited to teaching. There are also full-time editing jobs available from time to time. Most of them are advertised in the same places as teaching positions. Following are some of the organisations that hire editors/proofreaders:

Government/Private Research Institutes
Many government agencies and some private companies operate research institutes, some of which employ foreign staff with degrees in the humanities, economics or business administration to work as full-time editors. The editors proofread correspondence and research publications, write speeches, and occasionally teach as well. Most of the institutes pay quite well and some provide housing.

Public Relations and Advertising Companies
There are several public relations and advertising companies in Korea that hire foreign staff to work as copy editors and occasionally as teachers as well. There are also opportunities to appear on television and radio programs, and in movies. Most of these companies pay quite well and some provide housing assistance.

English-language Newspapers/Magazines
The English-language newspapers in Seoul require native-English speakers to edit (and occasionally) write for them. The hours are often long and some people have to work evenings and/or nights.
