Busan Metro-Subway System

Busan has an extensive subway system, which is referred to as Busan Metro. Destination announcements are made in Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese. Transfer points are announced by a bird twitter sound. As you go through the turnstile to get on and off, you will swipe if you have a transportation card. If you are using a paper ticket, you will want to hold on to it as you will have to insert as you go through the exit turnstile.   

Line 1 ( Orange Line ): Sinpyeong through Nopo-dong
Line 2 ( Green Line ): Yangsan through Jangsan
Line 3 ( Brown Line ): Daejeo through Suyeong
Line 4 ( Blue Line ): Minam through Anpyeong
Busan-Gimhae Light Rail Transit( Purple Line ): Sasang through Kaya Univ.

You can purchase both ordinary tickets and term passes from an automatic ticketing machine in each station. There is an English-language option on the machines.  Ordinary tickets may be one-way or return tickets. Fares are based on the distance travelled. You can figure out what you should pay by selecting the route or line number as shown at the top of the ticketing machine's screen and the sevice section to the right of the screen.  

Paper ticket adult -19 and up:  W1,300 (one section) or W1,500 (two sections)
Paper ticket youth - ages 13-19: W1,050 (one section) or W1,200 (two sections)
Paper ticket child – ages 6-13 (elementary students) W650 (one section) or 750 (two sections)
Round trip tickets -  multiply above by 2.

Transportation Cards - 19 and up: W1,200 (one ssection) or W1,400 (two sections)
Transportation Cards - ages 13-19: W950 (one section) or W1,100 (two sections)
Transportation Cards - ages 6-13 (elementary students) W600 (one section) or W700 (two sections)

Term passes (one-day, seven-day, one-month options):
1-day metro ticket: W4,500 - unlimited rides till the last train of the day
7/20 Ticket: W20,000 - 20 rides in 7 days, Metro only
30/60 Ticket: W55,000 - 60 rides in 30 days, Metro only

Group tickets:
• One can reserve a group ticket online if travelling with 20 or more people.
• To pay the fare, a traveller has to show up at a departure station or a destination station before or on the day of the travel. Payment must be made in cash.
• Reservation will be automatically cancelled if not paid in advance of the reservation date.
• 10% discount on transportation cards, 18%-20% discount on paper tickets

SCHEDULE - system basically runs from early morning (5-6 am to late night 11 pm-midnight).
