Why can't I use the ATMs at night?
In Korea, the majority of ATM’s shut down at 22:00 (10:00PM). A few are open until midnight, but those are few and far between. In the days when we could access our Korean bank accounts from abroad (while traveling, etc.) we had to make sure we were doing in during ATM hours (8AM to 10PM). Some of the reasoning behind the early closings are: to prevent people from going to get more money to pay for more drinking; to prevent robberies in ATM booths when it’s dark and there is less traffic; and to permit bank staff to do their work.
