What are the stats regarding sex crimes and foreign nationals in Korea?
In 2008, there were 53,240 Korean citizens arrested for sex crimes (out of a population of 49,268,928). This represents 108 sex-crime arrests for every 100,000 Korean nationals.
In 2008, there were 39 foreigners (from the seven English-speaking countries -- all visa types) arrested for sex crimes. According to the Korea Immigration Service, as of September 2008, there were 152,301 foreigners from the USA , Canada , UK , Australia , New Zealand , South Africa , and Ireland in Korea (all visa types).. This represents 25.6 six-crime arrests for every 100,000 foreigners from the seven English-speaking countries.
The Korean Institute of Criminology reported in 2007 that the overall crime rate among all foreigners in Korea was 1.4% compared with the 3.5% rate among Korean citizens.
