Is Korea a dangerous place to live?

No, not at all. The streets of South Korean cities are generally safer than those of many other industrialized nations. And while there are incidents of theft, expats are generally quite safe. There is no need to live in compounds or behind gates. As for the threat of North Korea, South Koreans express no fear and in fact are building large apartment complexes and office buildings on the edge of the DMZ.
