How much should I pay for a nanny or maid?
The following information is based on an informal survey of expat families.
Foreign hourly maid/nanny service: generally around W10,000/hour; can be a little higher evenings or weekends.
Sponsored* foreign maid/nanny: US$700 per month for live in; and KRW1.2million per month for live out - this is for Monday to Friday and a half day on Saturday. For live out, additional babysitting maybe charged at KRW10,000 per hour. Foreign maids will normally clean as well as look after children.
Korean home help (maid/nanny): rates of pay start at KRW1.4million per month for Monday to Friday only. Most will usually only look after the children and possibly cook. Some speak English well while many are not very fluent.
