Do I need to have an alien registration card to open a bank account in Korea?

No, you don’t. You can open an account with your passport. Be sure, however, to keep a copy of the passport you used should you have to replace it at some point. The bank will use that original copy as your identification each time you make any changes regarding your account, if you need a new ATM card, etc. Better yet, when you change your passport, take a copy of both, the old and new one, to the bank so that they can update your file.

In some instances, in some banks, foreign nationals who do not have an ARC may have to wait 3 months before receiving an ATM card.
