Why is there no 4th Floor button in many elevators?
The Korean word for 4 is sa and sa sounds like the Chinese character for death. That's why it's not indicated on the elevator controls - a little like the number 13 in Western societies - both are viewed as bad luck. However, in Korea there usually is a 4th floor, so the controls go 1 - 2 - 3- F -5.
