Some Korean traditions and myths share similarities with Christian beliefs. Also, during the period of Japanese colonization in the early 20th century, many Christians (catholics and protestant) were involved in rebel activities and were therefore seen as strong nationalists. In the last 30-40 years, Christianity came to be seen as not only an expression of modernization and as the natural progression into a developed country, but has also been seen as a means – direct or indirect – of financial prosperity. The economic crisis of the late 90’s saw a sharp increase in the percentage of Christians.
