My students keep asking me if I've had lunch or breakfast. Are they inviting me to eat with them?

Asking someone "Have you had breakfast?" is a way of saying "How are you?" You can just answer yes, even if you skipped eating that morning. If you want to be honest, you can say no, just as you can choose to announce the "How are you?" questions frankly.
