Is Korean 'shamanism' similar to that of North American Indians?

No, the two are very different. Korean shamanism is a mix of Buddhist and Taoist practices and beliefs. Although no longer widely practice, shamanism is still practiced in Korea as a means of resolving human problems. Even those who profess to be Christian or Buddhist may still turn to the old shamanistic traditions and rituals on occasion.
